Smoothies for Heart Health

By May 20, 2014March 30th, 2021Nutrition

My first adventure into the world of smoothies happened after my teenage daughter begged me to try this trendy meal substitute. I agreed, since, after all, many of the ingredients support heart health. I went to the market worried a healthy drink wouldn’t be filling. After partaking of these delicious treats for a few days, we both noticed increased energy and stronger sense of well-being.

Fresh Ingredients Are Vital

I always purchase the best-looking produce I can find; organic is preferred. I also buy fruits in season. I love strawberries and peaches in the summer and apples in the autumn.

Use Only Heart-Healthy Fats

Avocados add a delectable creaminess to any smoothie. The fat they contain is healthy for your heart, too. When avocados aren’t in season, substitute organic coconut oil. It too, contains heart-healthy fats.

Boosting the Nutritional Value

I started adding a bit of Metaboshake because it’s a complete vegan protein and seems to make the drink more filling. Systemic Formulas takes an integrative approach to make this supplement healthy, as it contains enzymes that may help reduce inflammation associated with consumption of a high fat meal, helps keep the blood sugar at healthy levels and supports healthy aging. I also add Fenugreek powder; an herb that supports healthy cholesterol and lends a slight nutty flavor.

Smoothie Recipes I Adore

To get started on the road to heart-health, try one of these delicious shakes.

Strawberry Avocado

If you love strawberries, start your day off right by trying this delicious smoothie. Add three to five ice cubes and then blend until smooth. If strawberries aren’t very sweet, add one or two teaspoons of honey.

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • ½-cup fresh spinach
  • ¼ avocado
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 scoop vanilla Metaboshake

Peanut Butter Banana

Peanut butter is delicious and it’s full of protein and heart-healthy fats. For a nutty lunch substitute, blend the following ingredients until creamy. Add stevia if the smoothie isn’t sweet enough.

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup organic almond milk
  • ½ cup organic peanut butter
  • ¼ tsp fenugreek

Raspberry, Banana and Almond Milk

I love this raspberry smoothie as well. To make it, blend the following ingredients until creamy. Add a bit of honey if it’s too tangy for your palate.

  • 1 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • ½ lemon, juice
  • 1 cup organic almond milk
  • One scoop vanilla Metaboshake

Invest in a few nutritional ingredients and give these smoothies a try. These delicious drinks will taste more like dessert than a meal. As an bonus, they will help keep your heart healthy and your energy at an optimum level.
